Insidious: Out of the Further director Jacob Chase is staying in the Blumhouse Atomic Monster family. Universal Pictures has set his next horror project, Sleepover, for an October 8, 2027 theatrical release.

The movie is still keeping most of its secrets, but its creative team and Halloween-season release date already make it one of the more intriguing early additions to the 2027 horror calendar.

Jacob Chase Stays in the Blumhouse Family

Chase will direct Sleepover from a screenplay he co-wrote with Night Swim filmmaker Bryce McGuire. Jason Blum is producing, while Chase, McGuire and Bea Sequeira will serve as executive producers. Lilly Tyson is overseeing the project for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Sleepover is a Cinescape Entertainment production presented by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The project extends Chase’s relationship with the companies after directing Insidious: Out of the Further.

What Do We Know About Sleepover?

No cast or detailed synopsis has been announced. For now, the film is being described only as the “quintessential sleepover nightmare,” leaving plenty of room for speculation about what will turn the familiar childhood ritual into a large-scale horror story.

Universal previously reserved the October 8, 2027 date for an untitled Blumhouse Atomic Monster release. Placing Sleepover there gives the film a strong seasonal position several weeks before Halloween.

What We Think

We both loved Insidious: Out of The Further and felt Jacob did a great job taking the series in a new direction. Setting a horror movie during a sleepover shows he knows horror. You have a group trapped together overnight, a house that feels different after the adults go to bed and the sense that every whispered story could become real once the lights go out. The premise could support anything from a contained supernatural nightmare to something much bigger.

Pairing Chase with McGuire is also worth watching. Insidious: Out of the Further showed Chase working inside an established supernatural world, while Night Swim turned a familiar part of suburban life into a threat. There is not enough information yet to know what kind of monster Sleepover is hiding, but the creative team and release date give it an immediate place on our radar.

Sleepover opens in theaters October 8, 2027.
