28 Years Later

28 Years Later (2025)

28 Years Later is a beautifully shot, well-acted, and ambitious film that feels surprisingly disconnected from what made the previous entries so memorable. Rather than focusing on survival horror, the movie leans heavily into coming-of-age drama, symbolism, and themes of mortality, resulting in an experience that left both of us more confused than invested. While there are interesting ideas buried beneath the surface, the story never came together in a way that felt satisfying or emotionally impactful.

Why Watch Our Review

We discuss why 28 Years Later may be one of the most divisive horror movies of the year, how Danny Boyle’s return to the franchise delivers a completely different experience than either 28 Days Later or 28 Weeks Later, and why we spent most of the movie wondering what it was actually trying to say. We also break down the new types of infected, the coming-of-age journey at the center of the story, the film’s unusual tonal shifts, the emotional storyline involving Spike and his mother, the bizarre final act that left us scratching our heads, and why this sequel feels more like an art-house drama set during an apocalypse than a traditional zombie horror film.
