Black Christmas

Black Christmas (2006)

The 2006 remake trades mystery and suspense for gore, shock value, and a much more explicit slasher approach. While the movie delivers creative kills, a faster pace, and a more traditional horror experience, it also introduces a backstory so uncomfortable that it frequently overshadows everything else the film does well. The result is an entertaining slasher buried beneath some deeply questionable creative choices.

Why Watch Our Review

We discuss why the 2006 version is simultaneously the most entertaining and most uncomfortable film in the franchise, how the expanded killer backstory changes the entire tone of the story, and why some of the movie’s most shocking moments have nothing to do with the kills. We also break down the over-the-top violence, the holiday atmosphere, the twist involving the killers, the memorable death scenes, and whether the remake works better when viewed as a standalone slasher rather than a remake of the original.
