Queens of the Dead

Queens of the Dead (2025)

Queens of the Dead is less of a horror movie and more of a comedy that happens to have zombies in it. The film leans heavily into drag culture, sharp banter, and character dynamics, delivering plenty of laughs while paying tribute to the zombie legacy of the Romero family. While the humor lands and the cast is entertaining, horror fans looking for gore, scares, or substantial zombie action may come away disappointed. The result is a fun, charming watch that succeeds more as a celebration of community and comedy than as a traditional zombie film.

Why Watch Our Review

We discuss whether Queens of the Dead works better as a comedy than a horror movie, how Tina Romero honors her father’s zombie legacy, and why the film’s drag queen banter became one of our favorite parts of the experience. We also break down the surprisingly heartfelt themes of self-acceptance, the movie’s approach to LGBTQ+ representation, the funniest moments, the lack of meaningful zombie carnage, and why we kept comparing it to Shaun of the Dead throughout the review.
