Saw 4K Releases Bring V, VI and VII to UHD

The next wave of Saw 4K releases is finally filling in a conspicuous gap in the franchise’s home-video lineup. Lionsgate will release Saw V, Saw VI and Saw VII individually on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and Digital on November 10, with preorders opening September 29.

These are not bare-bones upgrades. Each release includes both the theatrical version and a longer extended or unrated cut, with Dolby Atmos audio on the longer version. Lionsgate is also carrying over a long list of older extras while adding a new director-focused feature to each Blu-ray.

What Comes With the New Saw 4K Releases

Saw V

Saw V includes the 92-minute theatrical cut and a 96-minute extended version. The new Blu-ray features are Establishing Shot with Director David Hackl and Everybody Deserves a Chance: David Hackl on Saw V. The rest of the package digs back into the Pendulum, Cube, Coffin and Fatal Five traps, along with commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, trailers and TV spots.

Saw VI

Saw VI pairs its 90-minute theatrical version with a 92-minute extended cut. The presentation includes Dolby Vision, and the extended version gets Dolby Atmos. Its new Blu-ray feature, The Murders Continue: Kevin Greutert on Saw VI, joins two commentaries, trap and production featurettes, director’s diaries, cast interviews, music videos and Tobin Bell answering fan questions.

Saw VII

Saw VII, also known as Saw: The Final Chapter, includes both the theatrical and unrated versions with Dolby Vision. The unrated cut also receives Dolby Atmos. The new Blu-ray feature is Will You Survive Until the End? Director Kevin Greutert on Saw VII, with deleted and extended scenes, 52 Ways to Die, commentaries, music videos and behind-the-scenes material also included.

The Original Run’s Final Stretch Gets a 4K Upgrade

Together, these releases cover the final stretch of the original Saw run. Saw V picks up immediately after the fourth film, Saw VI turns the series’ attention toward the health insurance industry, and Saw VII pulls several long-running threads together for what was then billed as the saga’s conclusion. For anyone discovering these movies for the first time, the less said about how everything connects, the better.

What We Think

Physical-media announcements can disappear into a wall of technical specifications, but the appeal here is pretty simple: three missing chapters of the original Saw run are getting proper 4K releases, and Lionsgate is not asking collectors to settle for one cut of each movie.

The new interviews are a welcome reason to revisit the discs instead of treating them as straight resolution upgrades. More importantly, the theatrical and longer cuts are staying together. That matters with a franchise where alternate edits, unrated versions and old bonus features have been scattered across different releases for years.

The only mildly frustrating part is that these are three separate releases rather than one tidy Hoffman-era set. Then again, Saw collectors are probably used to making room for one more steel case.

Preorders for Saw V, Saw VI and Saw VII open September 29. All three arrive on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and Digital on November 10. Retailer links were not live when Lionsgate announced the releases, so we will update this story when they become available.
