Ari Millen stars as a dying man who returns to his childhood home to record messages for his young son. The isolated cabin already carries the weight of his past, and the discovery of an old family recording opens the door to something he may not be facing alone.
The Death of a Yellow Bird Teaser Keeps Its Ghost Close
The preview is more interested in mood than answers. A camera meant to preserve one last piece of a father’s life becomes part of a much older mystery, while the quiet around the house starts feeling less peaceful and more watchful.

Cody Calahan Returns With an Intimate Horror Story
Cody Calahan wrote and directed the film. Millen also produced alongside Chad Archibald, Jeff Maher and Calahan. The cast includes Peter Outerbridge, Kassandra Santos, Malka Kaufman and Chance.
Millen will be familiar to genre viewers from Orphan Black, Ice Cream Man and Undertone. Here, the material asks him to carry both the physical fear of the haunting and the quieter fear of what his character will not be there to see.

What We Think
A haunted recording is an effective horror device because it lets the past intrude on the present without explaining itself. More importantly, the teaser does not treat the father’s illness as a simple plot clock. His attempt to speak to his son gives every unexplained sound and missing piece of family history a little more weight. The restrained approach is encouraging.
