Wounds Trailer Turns Practical Effects Into a Nightmare
The Wounds trailer has arrived ahead of the film’s world premiere at Screamfest, putting Jack Kilmer and Paris Jackson inside a psychological horror story where special effects makeup stops being pretend.
Bloody Disgusting debuted the first teaser for Ron Krauss’ film on September 30. Kilmer stars as Caleb Castle, a horror-obsessed special effects makeup artist trying to prove himself at a fading indie studio, while Jackson plays fellow makeup artist Ginny Brown.
Wounds Trailer Sets Up a Makeup Artist’s Obsession
Caleb finally gets a chance to work on a low-budget vampire movie, but the opportunity takes a much darker turn after he witnesses a brutal murder. What he sees becomes inspiration for increasingly extreme attempts to make his effects look real, blurring the line between his craft and the violence around him.
Screamfest describes Wounds as an exploration of obsession, morality and artistic ambition. Krauss shot the film entirely on 35mm and describes it as a love letter to independent horror filmmaking.
Eric Roberts, Lambert Houston, Renata Notni, Richie Radichi and Rufus Dorsey round out the cast. Krauss directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Ryan Leeder and Joshua Courtade. He also produced alongside Ira Houston.
Wounds Heads to Screamfest on October 8
Wounds will make its world premiere Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. during Screamfest at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The feature runs 1 hour and 33 minutes.
The film was already part of our look at the Screamfest 2026 lineup, but the Wounds trailer gives horror fans their first real look at how the makeup-artist premise translates to the screen before the festival begins.
