Z Nation: Resurrection Is Bringing the Zombie Series Back

Z Nation original television series promotional poster with its survivor ensemble

Z Nation: Resurrection is in development at The Asylum, bringing the cult zombie series back years after its original run ended in 2018. Rather than simply picking up where the finale left off, the proposed sequel series will follow a new generation of survivors dealing with another undead threat.

Z Nation: Resurrection plans a new generation

The original Z Nation ran for five seasons on Syfy, following a mismatched group of survivors through a zombie apocalypse. It was rarely afraid to get strange, and that mix of action, dark comedy and absurd situations helped it find a following that lasted beyond the finale.

The new project is described as a sequel set years later. That gives the writers room to introduce a different group of characters while keeping the original show’s world intact.

Will the original Z Nation cast return?

Kellita Smith, Keith Allan, Russell Hodgkinson and DJ Qualls are reportedly in talks to appear in supporting roles. None of those potential returns should be treated as finalized casting yet. The Asylum has also not announced a network, streaming home, production start or release date.

It’s an intriguing approach for a franchise that was built around a very particular group of survivors. A new cast could make the world accessible to viewers who never watched the original, while familiar faces might give longtime fans a reason to check back in.

The revival also arrives during a busy stretch for zombie games and movies. We’ve recently followed the latest developments with State of Decay 3, another project built around surviving a world overrun by the undead.
