Escape From Playtime Early Access Begins October 21
Escape From Playtime Early Access begins October 21, 2026 on Steam, bringing the Poppy Playtime universe into a one-to-four-player co-op survival horror game built around the Smiling Critters. Mob Entertainment has also opened sign-ups for an open beta beginning October 1, giving selected players an earlier trip into Playtime Co.
The October date was announced during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct alongside a new release date trailer. The Steam listing now confirms the October 21 Early Access launch.
Escape From Playtime Early Access starts with eight Critters
Set inside the abandoned Playtime Co. factory, Escape From Playtime puts players in the tiny shoes of the Smiling Critters. Teams are sent into shifting sections of the facility to scavenge materials for a mysterious Voice while avoiding rejected Playtime Co. creations.
Mob Entertainment says each run can move through classrooms, warehouses, testing labs and connecting corridors, with procedurally generated environments changing the layout. Players can search for tools, solve puzzles, create distractions and use hiding spots or alternate routes to survive. Proximity voice chat adds another wrinkle when coordinating with a team.
The Escape From Playtime Early Access launch is planned to include the full eight-character Smiling Critter roster, one starter zone and a core enemy lineup. Mob says later updates will add zones, enemies and features as the studio develops the game with community feedback.
An open beta begins October 1
Players do not necessarily have to wait until October 21 to enter the factory. Mob Entertainment announced an open beta beginning October 1, with playtest registration available through the game’s official Steam news feed.
For Poppy Playtime fans, the Escape From Playtime Early Access period also gives Mob room to expand the spin-off after launch while keeping it connected to the larger universe. The studio says completed runs will gradually reveal more about the Voice, the promised sanctuary and what the Critters are actually helping build.
