The Resident Evil worldwide box office has crossed $200 million less than three weeks into its theatrical run, and two major international markets are still ahead. As of October 3, The Numbers lists Zach Cregger’s reboot at $212.4 million worldwide, while Box Office Mojo reports $206.4 million. The trackers differ on the current international total, but both put the film comfortably past the $200 million milestone.

Resident Evil Worldwide Box Office Has Nearly Doubled Its Opening Total

When we reported on the film’s opening weekend, Resident Evil had launched with $60.2 million domestically and $108.3 million worldwide, setting a new domestic opening record for the franchise.

The Numbers now has the domestic total at $112.4 million and the international total at $100 million. Box Office Mojo’s international figure is lower, which accounts for most of the difference between the two worldwide estimates, but the broader point is the same: the reboot has added roughly another $100 million globally since opening weekend.

China and Japan Are Still Ahead

The current worldwide total does not yet include China or Japan. Box Office Mojo lists the film’s China opening for October 5 and its Japan opening for October 9, giving the movie two additional international releases after it has already cleared $200 million.

That makes this a useful checkpoint rather than a final tally. Resident Evil is still in theaters in its existing markets, and the two upcoming openings will begin contributing to the worldwide number over the next week.

Where $200 Million Puts Resident Evil in the Franchise

At its current total, the reboot is already the fourth-highest-grossing live-action Resident Evil movie worldwide, based on franchise totals from The Numbers. It currently trails Resident Evil: Retribution at $240.6 million, Resident Evil: Afterlife at $295.9 million and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter at $314.1 million.

For a movie that opened at $108.3 million worldwide less than three weeks ago, crossing $200 million before China and Japan arrive marks another substantial step in a theatrical run TFR has been tracking closely since its franchise-record opening.
