I Know What You Did Last Summer

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) faithfully recreates the formula of the original, but rarely finds a reason to justify its own existence. While the film delivers a handful of effective jump scares, solid performances, and enough nostalgia to entertain longtime fans, it never rises above being a serviceable slasher. The result is a movie that's watchable and occasionally fun, but ultimately feels more interested in reminding audiences of the original than creating a memorable identity of its own.

Why Watch Our Review

We discuss whether I Know What You Did Last Summer benefits from its connection to the original film or is held back by it, how the returning legacy characters are surprisingly underutilized, and why neither of us ever became fully invested in the new group of friends at the center of the story. We also break down the movie’s biggest jump scares, the familiar slasher formula, the attempts at modernizing the franchise, the mystery surrounding the killer, and why the film constantly left us comparing it to Scream instead of standing on its own merits.
