New Resident Evil Trailer Sends Austin Abrams Into Raccoon City
The new Resident Evil trailer reveals more of Bryan’s journey into Raccoon City while keeping most of its zombies and larger horrors hidden.
Sony Pictures has released a new Resident Evil trailer, giving us a much closer look at Austin Abrams’ journey into Raccoon City without revealing too much about what is waiting for him there.
Updated July 27, 2026: Sony has released the full Resident Evil trailer. We’ve updated this article with the new trailer and added The Fear Review’s reaction below.
The first teaser introduced the movie’s new character and unsettling tone, but this trailer provides more context for how Bryan ends up in the middle of the nightmare. He is a medical courier sent into Raccoon City for a delivery connected to the hospital. What initially appears to be a routine job quickly becomes a fight to survive as the city begins collapsing around him.
Anyone hoping for a complete look at the movie’s zombies, creatures, and larger horror sequences will still have to wait. Sony continues to keep most of those elements hidden. There is one particularly creepy infected person in the trailer, but the focus remains firmly on Bryan and the experience of trying to survive alone in an increasingly dangerous city.
That does not mean the trailer is lacking in recognizable Resident Evil elements.
Bryan searches drawers for supplies, counts the bullets he can find, and gets his hands on a shotgun. One room even features a typewriter, immediately calling back to the save rooms from the games. These smaller moments make the movie feel less like a traditional action spectacle and more like someone trying to navigate a survival horror game without knowing what could be waiting through the next door.
It is an interesting direction for filmmaker Zach Cregger, who previously directed Barbarian and Weapons. Rather than retelling one of the games or bringing back familiar protagonists, his film follows an original character experiencing Raccoon City from the perspective of someone completely unprepared for it.
Our Reaction to the Full Trailer
The full Resident Evil trailer answered one of our biggest questions after the teaser: how closely is Zach Cregger actually following the feel of the games?
While the new footage may not be as immediately creepy as the teaser, it revealed something longtime fans will appreciate. From the iconic typewriter to searching drawers for ammunition and finding weapons along the way, this looks much more interested in recreating the survival horror experience that made Resident Evil famous. That approach has been a major talking point among fans since the trailer’s release.
Amy wasn’t completely convinced, though. She actually felt the teaser was scarier, while William came away encouraged by how many gameplay details made their way into the trailer. That debate became the focus of our reaction, including whether mechanics that are fun to play necessarily make for an exciting movie to watch.

We had plenty to talk about after the first teaser, and this new trailer gives us a very different part of the movie to react to. Our full trailer reaction will be added here once it is live.
