Resident Evil Poster Reveals a New Raccoon City Nightmare
Sony Pictures has unveiled a new poster for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil, which opens exclusively in theaters on September 18.
The new Resident Evil poster puts Zach Cregger’s Raccoon City nightmare front and center ahead of the film’s September 18 theatrical release.
The movie follows Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams, as an ordinary delivery turns into a single-night race for survival during the collapse of Raccoon City. Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser also star.
Resident Evil Poster Keeps the Focus on Survival Horror
Sony’s official synopsis describes Bryan as a normal person trapped in escalating chaos rather than a trained franchise hero. That choice gives the movie room to recreate the games’ vulnerability without retelling Leon Kennedy’s story beat for beat.
Cregger has also said the film’s environments will keep changing as Bryan moves through Raccoon City, with each new location introducing a different danger. The new imagery arrives reminding audiences that the outbreak is only weeks away.
Cregger previously explained how the film will borrow the pressure and resource management of the games while telling an original story set alongside the events of Resident Evil 2.
What We Think
We are not automatically sold just because Cregger made Barbarian and Weapons. Neither movie worked for us as well as it did for many horror fans, but his affection for Resident Evil 2 and its resource-conservation tension gives William a bit more hope.
William is still working on getting Amy to play Resident Evil 2, even with the new Halloween game competing for attention and Hellraiser: Revival on the horizon. In the meantime, a movie built around an underprepared courier trying to survive one terrible night may be the easiest way to bring that game-nightmare feeling to both of us without handing Amy a controller.
