AMC FearFest 2026 Brings Back the Crypt Keeper
AMC FearFest 2026 is bringing back one of horror’s most recognizable hosts: the Crypt Keeper.
AMC has announced that the Tales from the Crypt icon will serve as the official host of its 30th anniversary AMC FearFest 2026 celebration, which begins October 1 on AMC and AMC+. John Kassir is returning to provide the Crypt Keeper’s unmistakable voice, while Greg Nicotero has recreated the puppet and directed a new series of FearFest segments.
The biggest part of the announcement is that these are not simply recycled clips from the original series. AMC says the new AMC FearFest 2026 appearances mark the first new Crypt Keeper content in 30 years.

Nicotero recreated the Crypt Keeper through KNB EFX, updating the character’s familiar practical-effects design while maintaining the movement, personality and macabre humor associated with the original puppet.
Kassir is once again supplying the voice and, according to AMC, the new segments will feature the same kind of puns and dark humor that made the Crypt Keeper such a recognizable part of Tales from the Crypt.
Nicotero described getting to rebuild the character and work with Kassir again as an opportunity to revisit something iconic while paying respect to the original puppet created by Kevin Yagher.
That makes this more than AMC simply putting the Crypt Keeper on a FearFest graphic. They actually rebuilt him.

AMC FearFest celebrates 30 years beginning October 1
The Crypt Keeper will be guiding viewers through a particularly large FearFest this year. AMC says the month-long celebration includes more than 650 hours of horror and genre programming across AMC and AMC+.
The lineup includes movies from the Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Final Destination and Insidious franchises, along with Stephen King adaptations and themed marathons.
AMC is also bringing Tales from the Crypt itself into the celebration. All seven seasons of the anthology are available through AMC+ and Shudder, giving viewers considerably more Crypt Keeper than just the newly filmed FearFest segments.
The complete FearFest schedule is available through the official AMC FearFest 2026 page.
What We Think
Bringing back the Crypt Keeper feels like a much better way to celebrate 30 years of FearFest than simply stacking the schedule with another month of horror movies. AMC could have used old clips, nostalgia and the character’s image, but actually rebuilding the puppet, bringing John Kassir back and shooting new material makes this feel like a real return.
There is also something fitting about Greg Nicotero being the person bringing him back. Practical effects are such a huge part of what made the Crypt Keeper work in the first place, and recreating the character physically instead of turning him into a digital mascot is a huge win.
Now we just need to see how much of him FearFest actually gives us. If these are more than a couple of quick bumpers between movies, AMC may have found a pretty good way to make this year’s anniversary feel different.
